Summer 2023: resources during the work slowdown

We recognize many are facing financial difficulty with the production slowdown. We're here to help – we've compiled a list of financial resources and supports available to 891 members in this time of need.



IATSE Local 891 members faced with financial difficulty may be able to receive assistance through one of the following:

IATSE Local 891 Short-Term Loan

IATSE Local 891 offers eligible members interest-free loans up to a maximum of $1000 for three month terms. More information is available on the membership loan application form.

Medical Leave

IATSE Local 891 offers a medical leave policy which provides a reduction in quarterly dues for members who are unable to work due to a verifiable illness or injury. More information is on the medical leave policy and request for medical leave form.

Parental Leave

The Membership Parental Leave Policy has been established in accordance with Article 10, Funds and Financial Obligations, of the IATSE Local 891 Constitution. This policy is meant to assist active members who are unable to work due to parenting. Access the full policy and form here.

Free Financial Counselling and Consultation

Benefits of Film’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides all members of IATSE Local 891, (and their eligible dependents), access to free financial counselling and a financial consultation service. This counselling offers ongoing financial and personal support, and can provide quick, practical answers to common financial questions and concerns. These EFAP services are provided as part of the Benefits of Film Active Plan and Benefits of Film 60+ Plan.

EI Claims when not working

Members who find themselves without work can consider applying for Employment Insurance. EI requires evidence of hours worked which can be provided by payroll companies Cast & Crew and EP Canada. You will likely need to request earnings details from both companies. Details on EI eligibility and how to apply can be found at www.canada.ca

The AFC

The AFC provides emergency financial aid to entertainment industry professionals who work in all aspects of film and television production. More information, including how to apply, is provided on The AFC page.
